I never wanted to be the guy who built an app about hospitals and NICU stays. In the summer of 2023, my wife and I spent 253 days in the NICU with our daughter. She was born early — the result of placental insufficiency at 27 weeks and 1 day. We had fought so hard just to get her here. And then she was here, and she was small, and she was fighting, and we were terrified. One issue we didn't expect, everyone else caring about our situation. Not because people weren't kind. They were overwhelming in their kindness. But every call or text meant telling the story again. Every contact meant finding words we didn't have. We were in survival mode. We were sleeping in shifts and living on hospital cafeteria food and trying to hold each other together, and somewhere in between all of that we were supposed to keep the people who loved us informed. We had a blog. It helped. We directed everyone over there. But it was clunky, and it required more than we had to give some days, and the people reading it had to remember to check it. Until I figured out how to turn on email subscriptions at least! In a world where I had almost no time extra, dealing with tech issues really was the last thing I wanted to do. I'm a data and analytics guy by trade. I fix broken systems for a living. And I remember one night after we left the NICU and I had a moment to breath, I realized I can't be in need of this service. When it comes to moments of crisis, the people who need to communicate the most are the people with the least capacity to do it. So I built something. Sendet is a private update page for moments like that one. You create a page, share a link, post when you can. The people who love you get notified. No accounts. No algorithms. No one asking how you're doing in your DMs at midnight. You've got more important things to do. Just sendet, and get back to more important things. I'm going to use this page to share the journey of building it, the technical stuff, the business stuff, my other Little Warrior labs projects and honestly the personal stuff too. Because you can't really separate them. This product exists because of a little girl who is currently, as I write this, asleep upstairs. That's the whole reason, her.
